Disqus is a hosted commenting and community platform used by publishers to add discussion threads to their sites. A free Disqus account also creates a public profile, and the profile About tab can display a website URL as an external link.

Disqus is useful as a backlink source when you treat the public profile as the asset. The older tactic of hunting for Disqus-powered comment sections is harder to control, publisher-moderated, and easy to turn into spam.

### Method: Add your website to your Disqus profile

1. Create a free account from the [Disqus signup page](https://disqus.com/profile/signup/).
2. Open your Disqus profile or account settings after signup.
3. Fill in a real name, short bio, and any location or context that makes the profile look legitimate.
4. Add your project URL in the website/site field.
5. Save the profile and open the public **About** tab at `https://disqus.com/by/<username>/about/` to confirm the link appears.

A public Disqus profile can show the website URL in the About panel. In the inspected example below, the profile link rendered without a `nofollow`, `ugc`, or `sponsored` rel token.

### What about comment links?

Disqus comments can include links on publisher sites, but this is not the recommended quick-win method. Each publisher controls its own moderation, and Disqus' terms prohibit spam. If you comment, only link when the destination directly helps the discussion; otherwise expect the comment or account to be flagged.
